Session dies when i add a mysql query to my page.

Post by leest »

Hi All,

Ok i have a session on my page and an if session logged in the problem is this all works fine however as soon as i add a database query to the page and then navigate to another page which also has the session the session is killed and i am logged out on the next page. As soon as i remove the query the page works perfectly and i move from page to page without ever being logged out, but as soon as i add a database query again the the next page kills the session. I have tried re writing the query a dozen different ways but nothing changes i have even tried removing the if session on the page with the query but again as soon as i navigate away it kills the session and i am now at the point where i just don't have any more ideas and so if any body has any suggestions or ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

Below is a shortend versionof the page.

Thanks

Stan

Code: Select all

include '../include/session.php';
$usern = $_SESSION['username'];
<table width="800" border="0" align="center">
<tr>
<td><a href="test1.php">Test 1</a></td>
<td><a href="test2.php">Test 2</a></td>
<td><a href="test3.php">Test 3</a></td>
<td><a href="test4.php">Test 4</a></td>
<td><a href="test5.php">Test 5</a></td>
</tr>
</table>

Code: Select all

$host="";
$username="";
$password="";
$database="";

mysql_connect($host,$username,$password);
@mysql_select_db($database) or die( "Unable to select database");

$query = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM comments ");
$row = mysql_fetch_array($query);
//Variables start
$user = $row['user'];

echo $user ;

ummmmmm im kinda lost on what your trying to accomplish with your code?Because the problem might also be in your included file or in the query statement itself..
So plz explain :] ty

What is the value of the session.save_handler configuration option?

Code: Select all

<?php var_dump(ini_get('session.save_handler')); ?>

Thanks for the reply,

Basically i am just trying to make the page secure for users only although i haven't in the above example included the if user logged in part, the mysql query simply pulls information relating to the user from the database, as for the session save handler there isn't one in the session. I have included the session page below, although i have this session and a query working on multiple servers and have never had any problems, could their be something on this server.

Code: Select all

include("database.php");
include("mailer.php");
include("form.php");

{
   var $username;     //Username given on sign-up
   var $userid;       //Random value generated on current login

   var $logged_in;    //True if user is logged in, false otherwise

   var $url;          //The page url current being viewed
   var $referrer;     //Last recorded site page viewed

Re: Session dies when i add a mysql query to my page.

Post by McInfo »

Are you using the same MySQL user account for both database server connections? If you are, changing the selected database for the second connection will change it for both because there is actually only one connection.
PHP Manual: mysql_connect() wrote:If a second call is made to mysql_connect() with the same arguments, no new link will be established, but instead, the link identifier of the already opened link will be returned. The new_link parameter modifies this behavior and makes mysql_connect() always open a new link, even if mysql_connect() was called before with the same parameters. In SQL safe mode, this parameter is ignored.

Did you check php.ini for "session.save_handler"? The value is usually "files". It's probably irrelevant, but I'm still curious.
