Help Changing Class Extension

I'm not very good with classes. I haven't really had to modify them much so I'm not quite sure how to do this.

I'm using a class that extends TCPDF. This example opens a file and prints the contents of the file in the columns.

I've got data I'm pulling from a database and I'm going to run it through a loop and spit out html which will then be put in to the loop. But I was trying to avoid writing the results of the loop to a file, just so I can use this extension. I'd like to to just stick the results in to a variable and have that printed out.

What I need to concentrate on are the PrintChapter() and ChapterBody() functions. How do I get $content in the ChapterBody() function to accept a variable $html_grid instead of opening a file. If I replace $content with text directly, it works. If I replace $content with a function that doesn't take any arguments, that works also. But if I use $content = $html_grid (or any other variable) or $content = customFunction($text) { return $text; } doesn't work either.

Please help. Thanks!

Code: Select all

If I understand correctly, this should be the easiest:

Code: Select all

public function PrintChapter($num, $title, $file, $mode=false, $data=false) {
        // disable existing columns
				$this->setEqualColumns();
        // add a new page
				$this->AddPage();
        // reset margins
				$this->selectColumn();
        // print chapter title
				$this->ChapterTitle($num, $title);
        // set columns
				$this->setEqualColumns(3, 57);
        // print chapter body
				$this->ChapterBody($file, $mode, $data);

}

public function ChapterBody($file, $mode=false, $data=false) {
		$this->selectColumn();
        // get esternal file content
		if($data) {
			$content = $file;
		} else {
			$content = file_get_contents($file, false);
		}
        // set font
		$this->SetFont('times', '', 9);
		$this->SetTextColor(50, 50, 50);
        // print content
				if ($mode) {
            // ------ HTML MODE ------
					$this->writeHTML($content, true, false, true, false, 'J');
				} else {
            // ------ TEXT MODE ------
					$this->Write(0, $content, '', 0, 'J', true, 0, false, false, 0);
				}
				$this->Ln();
	}
}

That did it!! Thanks! you're a life saver. I never would have gotten there on my own using that method.
