If you find something better, please post!
I posted about SubEthaEdit earlier in this thread, but it got deleted (why?)... If the mods will allow me, I'll do it again.

SubEthaEdit does much of what BBEdit does: syntax coloring (with support for PHP, HTML, CSS and many other languages, although it can get tripped up when you do PHP and HTML in the same page), FTP support (with an external program), auto indentation, multi-line editing (great for commenting out large chunks of code quickly), and more, and it's free! I use it for just about everything now.

I still keep BBEdit Lite around for some things (multi-file find-and-replace, mostly), and there are some things SEE doesn't do that're kind of annoying, like remembering window positions or syntax coloring modes. It's nowhere near as feature-packed as BBEdit or even BBEdit Lite in some ways, but for its price and for the nifty syntax coloring, it's awesome.

And, if ya think about it... Apache is free, PHP is free, MySQL is free, OS X is free (if you count that it came with your $1000+ computer)... so why should you pay $120 for a text editor? :P
