I am thinking of doing a PHP course so I could maybe get some work out of it. But obviously its easy to outsource this kind of work to India and not being Indian I am not sure I could compete with them.

Does anyone have any advice if its worth me bothering or not?

Thanks

PHP is worth knowing on the off chance that you happen to get stuck with some websites etc which employ the use of it.
There are a lot of applications out there that use PHP and if you already know programming basics, PHP is pretty easy to skim over to learn as it follows (in my opinion at least) Java with some minor differences in how you code OO classes.

If you are looking for work within a local company, best bet would be to look at Java or possibly even Python unless your looking specifically for web development work.

Just my opinion at least... and it also really depends where you are located in the world as to what programming language is in demand.

Your location on your profile says you are from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. I'm not sure why you are worried about outsourced to India, when you will be the guy the work will be outsourced to.
