back at last

Post by Vegan »

for the good part of 24 months this forum has been out of order, so i see somebody has finally got the issues fixed and its back to work at last

I am still using WordPress like some 60+% of websites out there and I have reason to believe it may become pervasive.

Hey Vegan!

Yeah it was broken, and the updates were failing leaving it in even worse shape. Finally, with the most recent version of phpBB, I was able to get everything upgraded and working again. We've lost all our regulars, but we're starting to see some folks come back.

I was wondering as I am on the phpBB forum as well and there are lots of posts about problems with updates

not sure why as WordPress is very careful with updates etc as to not trash sites

anyway I am happy that this place is back as I used to be a good place to go to find help when stuck with a code problem

Yeah it's pretty bad. Even digging through the code to find the cause of a relatively simple error is a bit of a nightmare!

if nothing at least this forum is not overrun with spambots like many forums have fallen from, some I was used to be on long ago were so intense as to crash the database with so many posts

I have comments dyable outright on my site as spambots are so abundant, while there are things that can slow it down, the spammers are one war I do not want to get back into if I can help it

my server that hosts my site has a modest 250GB SSD so there is lots of room for content, but not for spammers

I had to implement multiple spam countermeasures to help keep this forum clean. Once things were working again it immediately started getting around 100 spam posts per day. The bots are relentless, they just try to hit the site over and over.

I see maybe 50-100 brute force attacks on my website, they attempt to get into the admin panel which is protected by a very strong and long password

I suggest everyone do that as scam artists are trying everything imaginable to plant malware such as ransomware etc

For new users here, I suggest upper case, lower case, digits and symbol all required for passwords
