Please make sure you check out the PHP manual found at http://www.php.net/manual/en/ before submitting your questions to the forum... or at least have a look through the General Posting Guidelines (found here viewtopic.php?t=8815).

There seem to be an increasing number of questions being posted which have either all ready been answered numerous times before or can easily be answered simply by checking out either of the links above.

I know that PHP can be a bit difficult to get to grips with if you are new to it , and I know from experience that it can sometimes make you want to put your fist through the monitor, but please spare a thought for other users of this forum who may have more technical or advanced questions which (in most cases) are beyond the help of the General Posting Guidelines or the PHP manual.

This forum also has a handy search function which you may find useful :)

I'm not saying don't post anything, and I'm not saying that newbies are not welcome here so please don't take this the wrong way. As a community we are here to help each other as much as possible but it's always good practice to try and find solutions for yourself and not get in the habbit of simply posting a new topic without checking around first.

Happy coding one and all

Kind Regards,
Gen-ik.

Thanks Gen, nice post. I do agree with you that much of newbie questions can be clarified or even solved by the PHP Manual, PHPDN Tutorials, PHPDN archive (and other resources). This way newbies come to the community with a much more concrete (and interesting) problem.

Ah, I also think this must be a sticky or an announcement, otherwise it will be forgotten. What do you all think?

Keep coding,
Scorphus.

You're OK mate, it wasn't aimed at anyone in particular.
I thought I would post it to (a) give new-comers to PHP and bit more info on the best way to find out information and to learn PHP, and (b) to try to keep to forum a bit more tidy ;)

As I said in the original post we are all here to help each other out so please don't feel as though you've been 'targeted' in any way.

I won't sticky this thread, but I will update the General Posting Guidelines to put a bit more focus on searching for answers and crib some of what Gen-ik has said here (if he's ok with that).

Yep no problem... you're the Admin :)

I didn't plan for the topic to made sticky anyway, it's just a little reminder for new users of the forum.
