Since Notepad does not display line numbers, whether you want to find a logical line or a visible line would be ambiguous with the "Go To..." command.
Although this has been academically interesting, Notepad is really only meant for viewing and editing simple text files anyway; any serious developer--that is, probably anyone who would care to find a particular line by number--should consider some of the many text editors that are available for most platforms. I suggest trying EditPlus, TextPad, and UltraEdit on Windows, BBEdit and Pepper on Mac OS X, and Kate on GNU/Linux, UNIX, etc. There are also many other options, but those text editors are all good in their own ways, so they are some good options with which to start searching for a text editor that satisfies your personal needs and preferences.

gay - 1178, "full of joy or mirth," from O.Fr. gai "gay, merry," perhaps from Frank. *gahi (cf. O.H.G. wahi "pretty"). Meaning "brilliant, showy" is from c.1300. Slang for "homosexual" (adj.) is first recorded 1951, apparently shortened from gey cat "homosexual boy," attested in N. Erskine's 1933 dictionary of "Underworld & Prison Slang;" the term gey cat (gey is a Scot. variant of gay) was used as far back as 1893 in Amer.Eng. for "young hobo," one who is new on the road and usually in the company of an older tramp, with catamite connotations. But Josiah Flynt ["Tramping With Tramps," 1905] defines gay cat as, "An amateur tramp who works when his begging courage fails him" Gey cats were also said to be tramps who offered sexual services to women. The "Dictionary of American Slang" reports that gay (adj.) was used by homosexuals, among themselves, in this sense since at least 1920. Ayto ["20th Century Words"] calls attention to the ambiguous use of the word in the 1868 song "The Gay Young Clerk in the Dry Goods Store," by U.S. female impersonator Will S. Hays. The word gay in the 1890s had an overall tinge of promiscuity -- a gay house was a brothel. The suggestion of immorality in the word can be traced back to 1637. Gay as a noun meaning "a (usually male) homosexual" is attested from 1971.
Kidz & d00d vocabulary seeping into phpdn. Think first before you brainlessly blabber something - it makes you look silly.
Especially if you don't give an explanation as to why you think this and that and simply use derogatory language to state your opinion. That leaves the impression of a pubescent attitude trying to impress. Which is what this forum was not set up for.
I am using an upgraded version of notepad called Homesite
The lasted Zend Studio is quite resource hungy - Homesite lacks some of the more powerful features, but I can customise my toolbar freely
i gotta agree zend is a bitch on the old resource management (i stated it on a earlier post about fave editors)
best non- zend editor in my opinion is kate on my RH9 box, and i use textpad alot when edited only a lil' code and not creating full blown applications
however the pro's far outway the cons in my opinion anyway
for zend
good and logical syntax highlighting
great project facilities (this is extremely cool)
real time syntax debugger
variable scope through all app files (unbelievable feature)
dependencies checker
fully featured debugger
syntax help
integrated "PHP Parser, so no need to pass it to browser
against zend
very CPU intensive
quite expensive
it wont code your work for you
but seriously, zend helped me to learn extremely fast, and yeah its expensive but it will pay you back in time saved, notepad is nasty, textpad is evaluation (but no limit, you just get a popup box asking you if you would like to register) instead of using notepad use textpad, its great and has syntax highlighting, line numbering etc
It's true, Zend is a superior IDE, but for all it's feature richness it lacks what I love above all: a fully customisable toolbar. I am sticking with Homesite - but I do have Zend installed as well
