phpbb2 hosting options

Post by bllott »

I am looking for a hosting solution for my phpbb2 forum.

After doing some research, I narrowed down the hosting options to the flowing 3:

Host Plan:
http://www.globat.com/ gigabyte package
http://www.lunarpages.com shuttle plan
http://www.ixwebhosting.com/ 1500mb 1 Domain

$6.99/month

Has anyone used any of these to host a phpbb2 forum?

Please state your opinions, or other reliable hosting solutions.

While I see how this has nothing to do with "php code".... I guess this is as good a place as any to start my posting here.

If you are aware of who I am in relationship to phpBB you might say I have a solid understanding of the needs of phpBB server-wise.

I personally think that any of those options will be more than sufficient for hosting phpBB for all but the top 5% of forums. (i.e.: those running 1m+ members).

I also have a special deal worked out with http://www.familyvoice.com for hosting phpBB forums. Contact them and tell them that John Abela referred you for phpBB hosting. They typically charge $17 bucks for hosting but they've setup a special hosting package for phpBB'ers.

I've been hosting with them since 2001 and they are solid. I run multiple sites (50,000+ page hits a week) and have no problems with their servers.

Anyway, don't want anybody thinking I'm advertising here.... I've just got a pretty good idea of what phpBB requires and I think any of those that you've suggested or the one I've suggested will work perfect for phpBB.

Great, can you please send me the links to some of these 1 000 000 user forums ? I would like to check it out.

I looked at the site you suggested and I considering it.

I would also like to have opinions on the customer service and uptime of the previously mentioned 3 hosts:

Host Plan:
http://www.globat.com/ gigabyte package
http://www.lunarpages.com shuttle plan
http://www.ixwebhosting.com/ 1500mb 1 Domain
$6.99/month

I would like someone who has used them before to share his/her experiences with them, positive and negative because I want to make sure these companies live up to their guarantees and promises.

Thanks

Gaia Online has a little over 32 million posts. Quite impressive.

These questions would be better answered at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/ AFAIK.
