How can I protect my code?

Mate, considering you seem to so easily want to offend people you don't even know, my guess is you're one of those people with relationship problems who didn't learn to get on with people because of their self-inflicted isolation.

I'm not offended by your rhetoric, but it's nice to see you're happy to show anyone with sense on this forum (thankfully most) that you're really just a bit of a tosspiece aren't you.

Let's forget about my 'nifty technology' - my guess is you were probably looking for something to vent your personal frustrations out and that casual remark probably served as an excuse for you.

And before you decide to quote me again and respond with one of your subwit paragraphs, forget about it. I won't even bother reading it.

mjseaden - ignore those who claim you cannot hide your code - you can, it's not difficult and it's very recommended if you want to protect your work. This is the package I use, it's not cheap - but then nor was the time spent on my project: http://www.sourceguardian.com/ It will encrypt your code so no-one can steal anything, and unlike Ioncube or Zend it doesn't require special libraries/modules on the server.

Why allow your code that you've worked on for months to be on an insecure server is beyond me..

I believe (from reading the other topic), that it's a school server?

Well, why not either:
- move your files and delete them from their server
or if that's not possible (ie. you did the work FOR the school)
- make your files only accessible by YOUR username (ftp)

anotherJean - there are many valid reasons for protecting one's code and make it proprietary:

1. because you want the financial reward for your work
2. you don't want anyone unauthorised modifying, copying etc. it

I've had code stolen from me - nothing that wasn't out there on the internet already. When you find out that someone copied your code, ripped out things he didn't understand and then re-sold a bastardised version of it to the same guy who originally bought your product, trust me, love, peace and happiness are the last thing on your mind.

Find the link and prove it please, because 10mins in Google searching for the obvious (hacking SourceGuardian, etc etc) brings up nothing.

prove it? lol, i didnt want to prove anything, i just said i read it somewhere, doest mean its true, whoever posted it could've have been just having fun or something...

no, he tries to insult me, this isn't a opinion. whatever I'm stopping for now .... your intimidation works :wink:

but you are right of course, that suggested garbage does not stand 5 mins...
whatever as long as it 's not cheap it's good for your mind :roll:

I think you did.

Mark asked a reasonable question, and i presume was looking for reasonable answers.

There was no need for most of your posts. You were only guessing his intentions of protecting his code. Whereas, you could have just given a suggestion and asked why he needed such a thing.

Not hard really.
