Add this line too:

Code: Select all

@ini_set('display_errors', '1');

sorry that was a previous error I forgot to delete that bit of code but it still doesnt report any errors - error reporting is switched off as the University doesnt want user to see errors on thier hundreds of other pages(if there are any) but I was told that id u use the '.....(E_ALL); CODE then it doesnt matter if errors are on or off(at the beginning of this post)

heres the amended code:

Code: Select all

// database query. Enter your query here

If this fails then I have no idea why or what will work.

Code: Select all

//Define ini values turned off by the Uni admin
ini_set('display_errors', '1'); //Turn on error reporting
ini_set('error_reporting', 'E_ALL'); //Specify to show all errors
error_reporting(E_ALL); //Should do the same as ini_set() but didn't seem to work earlier

if gzip or other encodings output is on, errors may get mangled or not displayed. Make sure to check the error logs.. or change the encoding to off.
