currently my web-page contains around 500 words - if I let the page contain (i.e.) 50,000,000 words, according to my understanding about search engine, more visitors will come to this page because the page has more opertunities to be found by search engine.
------------ So:
the more words the page contains, the more opertunities the page has to be found by search engine and the more vistors will come to.
is that right?

Generally the more the content matches the keywords the higher your ranking will be.
The more popular your link becomes, the even better your ranking will be.
Why don't you try searching google, I'm sure there are plenty sites explaining their ranking systems.

Google is a tough nut to crack. They change their ranking algorithms all the time and it's tough to keep up. No one REALLY knows how they do it except the google-god to whom I've prayed many times....to no avail unfortunately.
They base their rankings on a number of different things. The keywords that match in the body of your pages, how often your pages are hit, how many links you have from other sites to your site, what the relevance of those sites are to the keywords being searched etc etc.
as I said, it's a tough one to get a hold of.
sure you can learn what it takes to do it for now, but in 2 weeks time, they shuffle things around again and you've fallen off the planet.
My suggestion now finally:
just create a good page with good copy that isn't littered with the keywords (obvious littering) and google will find you. Some months you'll rank well, while others, you're no where in sight. Google will penalize you if you spam your page with junk SO DON'T DO IT!
As for other engines, the same principle applies, but other engines (and possibly google to an extent) take placement of keywords on your page into account. For example: if you're selling widgets, have the word widgets close to the begin and end of your body tag. Also include widgets in alt attributes, filenames, title tag etc....

Hi Burrito,
your reply is very interesting.
of course i will not create a page with 50,000,000 words, we are talking something about search engine.
you talk about penalty by google, are you sure that is true? how does google do that - manually or automatically (by some software)?

I'm very sure. They probably do some automatically and very definitely do some manually. I don't think they have a room of google-gnomes that sit around and penalize people, but I know they do some manually.
if you use good judgment and don't over-do your site with the keywords, you won't get hit with a penalty. It's only the people and unethical SEO companys that clutter pages with keywords, craete false links, spam google's hit counter etc that get penalized.
what exactly are you trying to optimize your page for?

the closer your keywords are to what the google'er is looking for the better off you are.
One simple trick is to do searches on different search engines using keywords that clients might use to get to your site. the old view source and you should see what keywords they are using.
The other thing that I know google will penalize you heavy for is not having keywords match the content of your page, as well as link farming(do people still do that?).
So don't over do it, a little research and playing with some of the keywords and I'm sure that you page will slowly make it towards the top.
