Okay to move the discussion along in a positive direction: given that some here think Zend Studio is not worth the investment, is there another IDE with a feature list and price similar to Zend Studio that is worth the investment?

I have yet to run into an IDE that hits all the right points correctly, let alone a well implemented feature set. So my vote, they all stink in their own special ways. Some are more smelly than others.

As far as PHP concerns are, I don't use any IDE, but I don't work with the basic notepad either. Right now, I've been working in PHP Designer 2005, which, after significant modification to its ideas about php via the completion data files it uses, works "okay." No where near perfect. For text editing, I most often work in TextPad. The IDE I use for "other" things is Visual Studio .Net 2005 Architect Supermodel Ultra Max 64MB 3004.

At least be specific.. is that the Home edition, the Professional edition, the Vista version, or the Home Professional version?

Awesome! I can't believe PHP Designer is free...Just downloaded it and installed. Looks great on the surface. Looks like zend or PHPEdit. I'll give a spin. I like free. I've been using Dreamweaver on Windows lately. I have the file management stuff. On Linux my fav is still quanta plus

I am extremely close to closing this thread. No one here has the right to call some one elses opinion wrong, ignorant or stupid. I'm not going to point anyone out here, but for those of you that know who you are, I suggest you read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion
An opinion is a person's ideas and thoughts towards something. It is an assessment, judgement or evaluation of something. An opinion is not a fact, because it is not possible to prove (or disprove) an opinion.

i made my points and need not reitterate. the things you point out have no bearing on this forum at all. kthnxcomeagain.
I will NOT tolerate any personal attacks. This will result in immediate ban after a 1 sufficient warning.
Consider this a warning.

Lets move on from this childish behavior and continue intelligent discussion.

I don't care, do what you want. Roja only gets on here to post against me cuz he wants to be a moderator. And so he takes the side of Feyd and tries to belittle me every chance he gets. So, I could care less. Do whatever you want. This is just an online discussion anyways, it's not like we're buddies or something in real life. I can move on to another board just as easily since it's obvious children dwell here anyways.

Hmm. So I refuted all your points, and your response is a personal attack, and the statement that you don't need to repeat yourself?

Sounds like you continue to prove my main point: You aren't showing respect for others - a key rule on this forum.
No, i just don't show respect to you cuz you deserve none. All you do is kiss mod ass. That's your whole role for this anyways.

therefore, i don't feel i need to respond to someone as mind-numbing ignorant as yourself

I've stated publicly multiple times that I don't want to be a moderator, so you are far offbase here. I've always been consistent on my stance - which happens to be one of the forum rules - that people need to show respect to people with different opinions.

I've had a number of people tell me they appreciate me standing up for that. I have no regrets.

I couldn't be more far from the opposite in that regard. I've taken on a devnet founder (phpclasses.org's MLemos), I've taken on a mod (McGruff), and I've taken on long-time contributors (like you, in this thread).

In every case, I've been completely consistent: People have the right to share their viewpoint, and not be disrespected for it - even if a mod, site founder, or long-time contributor disagrees with it.

And yet this is the third post where you have responded, each time attacking me personally, and have failed to back up your statements. I'd say that makes you the odd man out - not me.
