Hi there,
I must be really stupid, because tech support from my host told me, just after I fixed it that it worked without an issue. I then said "yes I found out why" and explained it fully to them. I didn't tell them which port I set my station to, however, the next day, it wasn't working.
They told me I could do this when I signed up. hmm, very peculiar. I said I wanted to stream my own music, becuase I write music and I don't want people downloading it, so I'm streaming it.
The mistke I made was I was testing it with other music, just because it was handy. And I guess I'm stupid, I told them that in all honesty too.
What jerks. You tell people the truth, and they mess it up for you anyway.

well if it is just for your own music, and you are willing to meet the owner's terms you can probably cojntact gvar at rogue-radio.com , I'm sure he'd be happy to help - he's looking for artists who'd provide tunes for free, and if anyone were to "buy" a tune or recording, they'd recieve royalties "per sale" , as I understand.. I dunno much abotu the music business. I just host - I'm deaf, so no use for music anyways
but sure does sound to me like someone is messing you up somehow (did you check your IP address, perhaps?) but if they started blocking the port you were using for your station, I am betting they are either bandwidth throttling (did they sell you a package with unlimited bandwidth?) , among other "tricks" Ive heard of... or they may just be concerned about liability issues, (a la Kazaa or other copyright infingement issues...) One of teh caveats of finding hosting = if it isnt in writing, black and white, on paper, it ain't true.

plenty of people out there that will say *anything* to sell you a hosting package, and then not deliver.

Just so you know, in virtually every format, if you can stream it, there is a way to download it. They are one and the same, if the enduser is sufficiently informed.

Depending on which music you used, you may have (probably were) been in violation of copyright law. When it is your music, its simple. When its someone elses music, its a very complicated affair involving paying monthly fees to several organizations, after filling out extensive forms.
If you didn't go through all those hoops, the ISP had to protect themselves against a possible lawsuit. Much like if an ISP finds you uploading child porn, they need to act as soon as possible.
Online radio is (unfortunately) a legal snake pit.

Hi,
it turned out it was my ip. I didn't know they could change i while I was connected, boy I'm behind. Tech support said they would have informed me first.
No way do I want to get involved with legal issues. I strictly want to play my own tunes.
Yes I realize you can record the music or take it, but I have a quesiton: if I stream it at a lower resolution, so it sounds slightly grngy, would that not turn people off from recording and distribution?

not necessarily - if it was otherwise good, and unique, and there were no other way to obtain it at better quality, they still might record it or save it
hence the basic premise behind radio is give it away free, but with ads inserted in between.. letting adverisers support it.. if you can build a listener ase, you can sell ads..

Hmm, I see. That's quite interesting.
Well I don't know if anyone would steal my music anyway. I still have to write a few newer tunes, to keep up with some of the new spftwarre I got, which can do cooler things. Creativity is never an issue with me, it's just, gettig people out of an old box, into a new one.
