Sorry to bring this OT slightly but what are the codes for all the great smileys I've been seeing everyone using?
Not everyone, just members of ModerHood Image

@Feyd

What does that code do? I'm new to php, I only know lots of basic functions and I am bad at interpreting any code but my own :D
I started learning php a year ago, but didn't start learning at a fast pace until recently.

Also, do you all mind if I make a thread soon asking anyone who wants to, to try and hack my portal that I'm making to help me make it secured?

ahhh... this reminds me of some company that advertised "if you can hack, you get $$" or something along those lines..... the intentions of that company were similar to yours... to make it more secured ;)

hope this gets approved haha.

I would probably ask if I can post my site when its' done.... To make it more secured :)

I see no rubish... I see more emoticons.

On a side note though, if you can.... why not hotlink it from your own site? or better yet, host/upload the emoticons you want to use to one of those free image hosting site and then link it?

just a thought :)

What kind of website do you have Matt? I myself am developing a simple portal system.

Don't care that much. But I think that is what the mods are doing.

We do mind. It's illegal to hack across networks. Which puts that into the realm of forbidden by forum rules.

heh, its just a little side project I been working on for a long time....

every time I think its good to go, I think of some feautre and then spend couple days "theorizing" that feature (putting it into perspective, thinking about how I would design the DB table etc.) and then spend couple days (at the most) to script it (depending on what kind of a feature it is. and then spend the rest of the month "testing" it

Wierd little bugger gets me every single freking time.

Anytime I think "ohh, this feature is now bug free!" lo and behold, I find a bug!

So once again, I think "This little devil is ready for the web!" I think of yet another idea ;)

that's how I have kept working on the same ol' project for a long time.

True, it does have many features.... but I often poner, "Will this ever be ready??!?"

and my day ends.... and I wake up (since this is summer, no college... but 1 college class) and ready to program again ;)

Aiieie! that's too bad.

I wish I knew php as good as some of the people on this forum.... that way I could have at least tested my project once it got finished.... I bet/think GW must be thinking the same ;)

@feyd:
even if the OWNER of the site asks, its still illegal?

hmm, but your point can also be supported because what if the person who asks/makes the request is pointing to the other site (not his own) lol! that would be bad!!

Probably not, but you would need to prove that you are. Oh and we'd have to be prepaired to do it. If you want that kind of thing done there are places on the web were people will do it for you, no questions asked, or so I've been told. You are better off buying yourself a book on PHP security and hanging around in the security forum on this forum. I recommend "Essential PHP Security" by Chris Shifflett, he turns up in these on these forums every now and again as well.

Hacking isn't any fun if you've got permission.

:twisted:

If it bugs you all bad enough, and you want proof of ownership of the website, I can happily edit my script to say "Made by GWsux", right now it says Made by Toasty2 (my other name). I also completly own the domain, and all subdomains that you might find my scripts @ randomresources.com. If you don't want a hack-contest, then I will have to find a group of people elsewhere, too bad this is the only website with really smart people in large quantities. I don't know any other php people :cry:

Hacking is not illegal, if legitimate permission is given (which I can provide), why not? Shouldn't that make section 1.1, rule 9 not apply? (You got the rule # wrong :wink: )
1.1 Posting
9. Warez, copyright violation, or promotion of any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed or posted in any form.

As a sidenote GWSux, what if one of us was able to hack your site and choose not to tell you that he couldn't get in and instead waited for an opportunity to exploit you.
What if an evil and experienced hacker is reading this right now? He now probably has an interest in hacking you because of your lack of confidence in the security of your own code. You would which you had never brought it to his attention would you not?

I didn't really understand what you said Ole, and can't figure out whether you were talking to me or feyd, but If you were talking to me..I am not worried about someone hacking my script and screwing things up (however knowing if my script is secure is still a concern), it easily runs out of the box, and uses no database, therefore making it no loss to me if it is hacked, except for maybe the 2 sentences of information displayed by it, but I can easily re-upload the script with the necessary fixes made.

Also, Feyd, If hacking is "illegal" as you said, then why are companies hired to hack networks for testing their security? Even if I was "mad" for someone hacking my script, why would I goto the trouble of trying to get you in trouble with the law? (if you want, decode the thing in my sig). I wouldn't even want to waste time, money, or my efforts doing such a thing, unless I owned amazon.com and lost tons of information or something.
