Best PHP bulletin board?

Just wondering...I'm currently running phpbb 1.4 as the engine for my site's forums. It works well with some minor issues, but I'm thinking about upgrading to 2.0 and wanted to do a quick opinion check (particularly from the PHPDN team who recently consolidated their forums) on the best choice for a PHP bulletin board. Is there any particular reason that phpBB was chosen over something like openBB?
Thanks in advance--

I think your looking at the best PHP forums. That are free anyway.
OpenBB is good, but its not quite as mature as PHPbb.
vBB rules as far as commercial BB's go.

phpBB, in the end, was chosen because it had the features required and was done.
http://www.ibforums.com (I believe that is the URL, google it if not) is also looking promising, though it's not yet finished.

I've used several PHP forums from WBB to XMB, and trust me, PHPBB is the BEST. I suggest you get it.

yeah vbulletin is probably the best... its pretty cool in my opinion... but i don't see why phpbb and openbb can't be good if not customized better... thats how it goes

VBulletin costs too much. Anything that isn't FREE costs too much IMHO. Yeah, the new IB is looking very good indeed. Weren't they supposed to have a working beta some time back? I wanted to be a part of that...
Oh well.
The whole story behind the new IB is really crazy. Something you'd never imagine happening... but it did.
Are you guys going to add some mods to this phpBB? Or maybe some more styles?

From the day Matt (Ikonboard author) announced he was going with Jarvis, I predicted the final outcome. It seems every shareware/freeware author who has ever merged with a real company, has left that company within a few years. (or in Matt's case, a few months)
The guy who made Homesite left allaire a while after joining. He went back to programming, this time inventing Topstyle. (I doubt he will let himself be bought out again)
I cringed when I heard Matt's news about the merger, I kinda knew it was the beginning of the end
Oh well, hopefully he learned his lesson, won't let it happen again, and his new forums will be a success

Personally, I like XMB more than phpBB. But XMB split for some reason and all I have is a really old version.
