Contact Grabber

Dear All,
There are a few open source scripts for grabbing contacts from sites like hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc. But there isn't any single open source package providing this functionality in an integrated manner.
What if sites like rediff, orkut & myspace are also added to this list? i.e. the script will fetch the contacts / friends of the required user. Would you want such a script?
Let me know your views.

Hi,
We do have such scripts and are currently working on finalizing and giving finishing touches to them.
The scripts of Hotmail, Yahoo & Gmail were taken from phpclasses.org. The others i.e. of rediff, orkut & myspace have been developed by Magnet Technologies Pvt. Ltd.

You can try out over here. Don't worry, none of the details are stored with us.

Onion: I'm going to include websites that take people's passwords. You claim they're not stored but we don't have any proof of that.
thanks tovishalck but we want more ;)

You should be aware that he hasn't said they'll be free.

Due to various phishing scams (some very successful), I don't trust third-party websites with handling that kind of information. It is too easy for them to store the passwords before posting them to the outside source, and the integrity of the majority of these websites is questionable. Even if they wouldn't use the passwords, they may store them for their own interest, and I simply cannot put my trust into them.
You can make the scripts, but allowing them to be free would allow too much misuse and abuse. Not that I'll be a user of them, but I figured that I'd drop in my two cents.

Yeah onion, I haven't yet said they are free, but they will soon be produced under the GPL license. And yes, they will be free.

A GPL library cannot be linked to an application that isn't also released under the GPL. That's why the LGPL was created. You might want to use that instead. Unless that's your intention of course.

It will be produced under GPL. The scripts which have been used i.e gmail, hotmail & yahoo are already available under GPL. So I don't think there should be much of a problem.

Dear Neel,
I understand and it's fair enough.
Even I would not trust any site which would ask for my email password until it is open source. This post is just to get a feel initially of what do people think about such an application being available open source.
As you can see, some said that it will increase phishing, etc.

Dear Onion2k,
Thanks for your feedback so far.
What is the difference between GPL & LGPL? As I mentioned, we are going to put it up as Open Source under the GPL license. Will that be a problem? The 3 scripts of Yahoo, Gmail & Hotmail are already GPLed.
Let me know.
