Afternoon,
I am currently in need of a hand with some coding. I am new to PHP but would like to know a few things.

Scripts i am after...
- A script to display "this weeks releases" So to pick out titles from the database with a specific release date.
- How to display items from the database (MySQL)

I am sure i will have many other questions, so all help would be much appreciated.

Regards,
Alan

Please don't make posts with subjects like that. Use something more informative.

What you're asking of is probably the most commonly written code in PHP. There are thousands of tutorials on the internet about it, thousands of books about it and thousands of threads already posted on here about it.

Read this and I think all your questions should be answered.

Considering this is a community forum, we help people in hopes that it will benefit many others. Vague titles and such make it much more difficult for others to find posts on the subject.

In the spirit of which this forum was built, all we ask if you abide certain guidelines, and we believe that is not a lot of task.

@iUK: if by "did exactly what i did" you mean he was a jerk, then yes...

You'll find we're generally a helpful and friendly bunch, but we tend to be weary of people who don't seem to appreciate the time and experience we volunteer. If it's not wanted, I welcome you to try Google, the PHP manual, and/or other forums.

Please don't take all this too seriously, and for our sake, please try your best to follow the rules - they really do help reduce our workload.

how the f**k have i been a jerk!? i simply asked a question?

As you can see by my 2nd post in this forum i have "followed the rules", i would say its you who has been a jerk to treat a new comer to the forum the way you have.

Out of all the replies on thie thread only one person offered any help and guidance... ptrpan

Of which i thanked him for, so how am i not appreciating the help?

Granted the subject was rubbish, but the onslaught of bitching provided, to me is not using your so called "experience" to its best abilities!

A simple, "here's a link that may help, oh btw, please make the subject better" would have surficed! Not the bombardment of negative replies, mainly by yourself!

I believe it is a sticky somewhere but will post again...
How To Ask Questions The Smart Way

to quote some passages from this...
It sometimes looks like we're reflexively rude to newbies and the ignorant. But this isn't really true.

What we are, unapologetically, is hostile to people who seem to be unwilling to think or to do their own homework before asking questions. People like that are time sinks — they take without giving back, and they waste time we could have spent on another question more interesting and another person more worthy of an answer.
Ok this wasn't written for this forum but it is reasonably true of any forum and we are not "hostile" unless people start being hostile first. Language issues may also play a part.
Never assume you are entitled to an answer. You are not; you aren't, after all, paying for the service. You will earn an answer, if you earn it, by asking a substantial, interesting, and thought-provoking question — one that implicitly contributes to the experience of the community rather than merely passively demanding knowledge from others.
You should also bear in mind that most answers on these forums are from people with many years of experience. The latest online tutorials are not necessarily in their heads. Why should they do a Google search when you could have to begin with? Googling for "PHP MySQL Tutorial" returns approx 22,000,000 entries.

As for comparing with other topics please bear in mind it does depend a lot on who answers the topic. If a solution is given before a "mod" looks at it they are unlikely to comment further (unless it's a problem with syntax tags ). Moderators often get a lot of stick for no return but they help any forum to run smoothly.

Can you either ban him or take the 'uk' away from his name?
I'm ashamed to come from the same country.

[edit]Oh Lord, I'm from the same city.
