Eureka!

I have been successfully editing code with Dreamweaver.
As a thought, I decided to use Notebook to edit this particular file and...

Wouldn't you know it, inclusive of button mod and < sign.... SUCCESS!
Question remains; Why only this particular file?

Something to do with the encoding type. At least it works now.
