About two weeks ago I bought the book Designing with Web Standards by Jeffrey Zeldman. I am almost done with it has been one of few books I possess that I haven't skipped chapters / sections because it is dull.
The name says everything that there is to be said about the book, it will show you how to design a website using web standards (CSS, XHTML).
Anyway, if you are looking to learn & understand XHTML & CSS I recommend this book.

I will second this. It is an excellent book. Not only do you learn alot, but the Zeldman is just really interesting to read. It's also relatively cheap, and the amount of information you get is more than enough. But there isn't any fluff. You won't find half the book contains an appendix to some obscure documentation you can already find online. The book is simple an excellent buy.
If your serious about developer web sites, this book should be a must.

If anyone wants my opinion, I have 9 books now, and I started making websites last year, And 7 out of the 9 books are the O'reilly " " in a Nutshell. I think they are great...

I own both Perl Cookbook and Learning Perl, both by O'Reilly. They have been the best resource out of any other when it has come to Perl.
