Linux has got it all...

Post by Heavy »

I recently installed Mandrake 9.0 on my box.

I didn't do the fast install really... I read the package descriptions for two hours *exhausted*, then I just scrolled down to check those that I already knew. I found some that were interesting though.

For example, the rdesktop.

I typed rdesktop <my-specific-IP-address>
...and it just worked!

Anyone that needs to access a W2k Server remotely can have that Terminal Services Client behaviour with rdesktop.

Even the ASP-guy I have been talking about, liked it. I showed him a screenshot from KDE using rdesktop connected to our server, and he said:

- Cool! I gotta install Linux too, to play with it!

Mmmm. Feels good! :D

Hey,
I am running Mandrake 9.0 standard edition and I love it. Its my secondary PC right now, WinXP is primary, only for games and school related stuff.

Well, now he has!
At first he thought it sucked, since he had some error with /etc/hosts beeing empty, thus causing every program to sleep for a minute or five before start running. Extremely annoying, of course!
But, Linux reported that during boot. He took notice and added localhost to the file.

Voila!

Suddenly it works as supposed and good aswell.

Remember, this is a server guy. The thing he seems to like most is the fact that X is not needed to run a Linux server. W2k occupies CPU power and RAM unnecessarily in that aspect. A Linux based system don't have to.
:)
He thinks of Galeon as a pretty nice and capable web browser aswell.
