What are these called? http://openwebware.com/products/openpopups/

Even though it says pop-up I don't belive that's what they're called. Cuz a pop-up is an acctual window. These are more like layers.

It uses <div> to display the popups (and the look like ugly Windows candy on Gnome). The javascript looks pretty clean if you like that look and feel.

Have you tried A List Apart yet? They have some pretty good CSS and JS tutorials.
