fdisk /mdr
rewrites the master boot record on the disk, so yes, you were correct.
Tip, after you finalized your installing (added hotfixes, patches, the absolute-needed-goodies-software aso aso), ghost the drive.
I ghost drives on regular basis, and installing Win2k and Suse takes 7 minutes (or as fast as a gigabit ethernet can transfer data) using that method. A bit cooperate thinking perhaps as I mainly do this at work, but... It does work at home also.
