Hi, Im new to this site...my first post. Im an admin for a php internet forum and recently been made aware of the following incident:

A user(guest) has posted on one of the rooms. This is no registered member and it appears to have been somebody who uses BT Broadband dial up. I posted as a guest a few times(couldnt be bothered to sign in) and when matching the IP addresses, they were identical. It also said that I made 85 posts as that user with that particular IP address. I use BT Broadband as well, however I didnt know that it was possible for the same IP address to be issued twice? Please advise?

Please excuse if this is a bimbo question, Im very new to PHP. Im more fluent with asp, xml and .net

this is not a PHP - related problem

it is possible for more than one person to have the same IP, especially if you on a network

from what i am aware of (and im a networking expert) it is not possible to hijack someones IP because of things like the DNS and the ISP's own settings such as subnet masks etc, i will give you an example of how this might of occured

say you are at university, or a cafe or whatever then all the computers would be sharing the same internet connection and in various circumstances the same IP address (this is not normal however).

i doubt very much it was a malicious act
