Python becoming more popular than PHP?

XML, Perl, Python, and other languages can be discussed here, even if it isn't PHP (We might forgive you).

Python becoming more popular than PHP?

Post by phoggy »

Hi all,
I have been away for over a year from doing web design and I just went to the bookstore to find some more books on PHP and I was shocked to see how few books were availabe as compared to a year ago. There are almost as many books on Python as there are on PHP, and a year ago there were pretty much none on Python. Even there was a book on Ruby, which I also had not seen before. Is Python becoming more popular? Is it because of the .NET craze and it supports Python, not PHP?...... What is the trend right now?
Thanks for any input.

don't you think people in a python group can answer those questions better? :) btw, i don't think there is a relation between "available books" and "popularity". in that case the relation between "workable sourcecode" and "popularity" may tell you more about how useful a language is (to those that wrote the programs anyway)

i can only apploud if there are knew languages becoming available.. and if i see a way to make them do my work easier/faster/better i'll use them.. but untill them i just don't care about them (well, this is a little chicken-egg problem because you have to know it a little to know it can do the job :))

NO. If they are already using Python, than maybe their opinion would be a bit biased. And I prefer this forum....
