Been a while since I've booted into OSX but isn't it just in /etc/hosts ?

EDIT | Or is that /private/etc/hosts ?

I don't think so. I just searched the whole computer for 'etc' and it found two folders whose contents are just files that say like GMT +11 etc....(some kind of time zone stuff it appears)....nothing regarding a host file that I could see.

edit: I also did a search for host and found a bunch of files that start with 'host' but nothing that resembles a real 'hosts' file 8O

I found this:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/294437

....yes I'm quite aware of the irony that this is a MS KB article for a mac.....

I tried following those instructions and I get stuck on number 2...I don't see a 'domain' menu or a 'security' option anywhere....grrr!

wait d11, you're right...it is in there.

now for some reason though it won't let me change the permissions on the file to edit it ... GRRRRRRRRRR!
