How much should I ask for payment?

Didn't really know where to post this question, but here goes. I'm working with someone right now on designing his website and building a database for his plumbing business. I'm pretty confident that I can write the code myself and enter all the stuff into the database, but I don't know how much to charge him or what?! Should I charge hourly or for the whole project? There will be several hours put into this and I'm just not sure what's fair. Thanks for your help.

Nevermind, I am not as bright as I thought I was. I saw the big "FOR HIRE" sign and came up with a figure. $5 an hour. j/k.

heh

I base my numbers on the budget of the client (which is always a flat fee) or if i'm not sure of a budget I give a flat fee which is based on how many hours i put into it multiplyed by a number (usual hourly rate) per hour.

It's a very simple foundation for building a good estimate system, explore and experiment with it.
