Are you the "go-to" guy or gal who always comes in and gets the project done right, even when others have had challenges? Are you eager to work with high-caliber team members who are passionate, hard working, and very good at their craft? If so - we have a need for one or more full-time (or mostly full-time) independent contractors to join our team of smart, creative and friendly people to do some compelling work in PHP.

A little about us:

We are a mid-Michigan technology solutions company that continues to experience rapid growth and we need great people to grow with us. We engage in primarily public-sector (e.g. education, corrections, etc.) projects and bring creative technical solutions to complex problems. We have local and remote team members, and have success with individuals who enjoy the opportunity for flexibility in location/work hours while contributing their best thinking and productivity every day.

A little about you:

Your primary mission will be to develop web products with PHP development tools. You will possess very strong LAMP stack experience, including Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP. The system you will be working with will have a reporting and data warehouse emphasis, so strong database and reporting experience is a must.

Your required skills will include: OOP (object oriented programming) and common design patterns for the web. PHP for web development using Apache and MySQL, meaning you understand how to write queries, create tables, and interact with the command line interface. You must know how to perform optimizations and have excellent SQL skills. You must be able to write queries from scratch and debug performance issues. You must understand data modeling and have experience with database modeling tools. Your working experience with JavaScript, including working knowledge of AJAX either through direct coding or libraries such as JQuery, is required. CSS and LESS CSS experience is a must. We are not looking for a designer, but you must know the basics and how to tweak settings when necessary. You will be experienced with Linux including shell commands, scripting, Linux permissions model, and basic configuration. You will also possess experience working with some form of version control software such as CVS, Subversion/SVN, or GIT.

Our ideal candidate will have good communication skills, the ability to work independently, and will work well with others as a member of multiple teams. You will be working directly with project managers and analysts, and you may speak directly to customers for requirements clarification, depending on the project. Our projects typically have 1-5 developers with additional staff for project management and business analyst support.

Desirable skills include: Experience with Symfony 2, Zend Framework, Doctrine ORM, LESS CSS, JQuery, and a working knowledge of GIT. Experience with database modeling with MySQL Workbench is preferred.
