Looking to work with a web developer that is as interested in the future of journalism as much as pay. We are an online news start-up in upstate New York and want to be a leader in progressive, community web tools that have a big impact in our community but hopefully effect the larger industry. If you are someone who thrives at taking on a variety of projects, that believes in quality code, and that is inspired by how your effects contribute in tangible ways to the growth of the company and our mission at large, then we want to hear from you!
The ideal candidate is someone who is a recent graduate, has a strong foundation in php and has some experience in python but wants to learn more. This person should be in the northeast, can work remotely but we will want to meet at least once a month in Saratoga Springs. At first we are looking for a 20 hour a week commitment but will likely want more in a few months.
Minimum requirements:
1.Bachelor Degree from an accredited 4 year university program
2.At least 2 years of professional web development / programming experience in PHP
3.Demonstrated web development skills (e.g., through code samples, a portfolio of work, technical diagrams, etc.)
4. Proficiency in object oriented programming and solid experience with at least the following languages: PHP, HTML, CSS, Javascript
5. Understanding of web site hosting and server technology
6. Comfortable with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
7. Love of learning, and ability to work with minimal supervision or training
8. Ability to solve problems quickly and completely
9. Ability to multi-task and stay organized
Ideal candidates may also possess:
1. Computer science or similar degree with 5 years of professional web development / programming experience in PHP
2. High integrity and concern for others
3. Thorough in conceptualization and self-checking of code to reduce testing time by others
4. Strong writing and communication skills
5. Web server / networking / IT experience
6. Ability to “think outside the box”
7. Knowledge of security and encryption
8. Expert knowledge of maintaining and debugging live software systems
How to Apply:
Please respond by submitting to community[at]saratogawire.com and submitting a cover letter, resume/CV, and samples that may include links to sites you have produced, sample code, and anything else that you feel sets you apart.
