hey guys ... Usually you get your rate to urself like i never tell someone (i m a designer more then a programmer..i m just trying to enlarge my field of work :P)

but like when i do a web site i usually getall the info first then i come back one or 2 days after with a contract with everything that has been said and i do calculate approx. how many hours of works vs budget pof client.. it usually never go lower then 40$ an hours.. but it s not fixed.. it depend alot..

well that s what i think...
(as a freelancer of course)

Indeed... For small jobs, a few hours or less I ask $85 an hour.
If I bid on a larger job my rate would be flat and average
between $45 and $60 an hour....

This includes meetings, data architecture, interface design, scripting,
customer preview, testing, fixes, documentation and final launch.

IMHO If your going to be a professional, charge like one,
and provide the service that the pay rate warrants

I flatrate based on what's involved in a particular project. When you're dealing in a business your clients don't know much about, hourly rates make you seem untrustworthy. That's why few people trust their mechanics. The reason mechanics get away with it is that most people need their cars on the road immediately. Web developers don't have that same advantage.
I say charge what you think the work is really worth. Offer deals to repeat customers, but don't lowball yourself into complete professional disrespect.

most of the time i give the client 3 choices.

- pay by hour (rate depends on the project, from $30 to $50 mostly)

- buy X many hours, if the job is done in less then paid hours then the client still pays in full. if the job was't done in paid hours then the client can buy more hours.

- fixed pay, this very much depends on the project, if they job seems biger then 90/100 hours then its mostly fixed.

and before starting the project, i ask for 30% of total pay first, just incase the client changes his/her mind after few hours of work.

seen that a few times... excellent advice
need to be careful of delivering the product without final payment

the client can test the app on my server, i talk to the client every day on MSN and even had few phone calls from international clients..gives ya warm feeling inside :lol:, before handing over, i ask for 50% of total ramaning cash, they pay, i hand over, i tweak the app if needed and then they pay the rest of it....although they can simpley pay the 50% and tell me to go get....a goat, but it hast happend yet.

is there any program or a method i can use to give out a trial version of my scripts? i am sure i have seen it somewhere but cant find it agian :roll:.

here are my $0.05 :)

I live in Ukraine and clients know this.. so although I know that my services are worth $50 / hour I charge like $15 /hour
I use hourly rate only to claculate flat price for a project and then price is fixed and doesnot depend on how many man/hours it really took.

Well I could start another website and try to cheat my customers pretending that I am EU or US company and rise my prices, but this approach is wrong

What I am thinking about is to make joint venture with somebody from 1st class countries like Europe or US or UK {lots of others}
I even made little page on my website about this.
Well sometimes people email me about, sometimes they even trying to start something, but finally as far as I undertand they are afraid to make true "virtual" company where developers are in one country and coowner is in another, thousands of miles away.

Well I cant say I dont have work to do or I am looking for job. I have. The only wish is that usually I have projects ~1week-1month for ~1man. I think if I would have foreign partner I could have bigger projects, like 3-6 month for 3 men.

And meanwhile it goes as it goes :)
