HELP : Looking to go freelance...

Post by JayBird »

Im looking to start doing freelance work after been employed by a web design company for the past 5 years. It's a bit scary and i really don't know where to start in terms of getting a client base.

What methods have you used to advertise your services and attract clients.

Any other advice you can give me?

Thanks

Mark

While I haven't done this yet, my friend get's TONNES of business from Google Adwords. Just narrow down your keywords to your niche market or home town.

Use the force my young padawan learner ;)

Actually any type of advertising is what you want. Make up business cards and pass them out, take out newspaper ads, use micro's suggestion of localized google adwords, phonebooks. just get your name out as much as possible, also once you do start getting gigs, make sure you do an outstanding job and they will in turn pass your name on. Before you know it you will have more work then you can handle.

talk to your previous clients and tell them you will do their work for half or three quarters of the previous rate. Nobody knows your code better than you..
