File Centric Forum

I am a member at a few forums that specialize in trading files and such.

I am looking to develope a File Centric Forum

The newly coined FCF would enessence be a product that will be sold commercialy.

Currently, the most sucessful model of the colabrative contribution of file sharing is via forums. (outside of p2p) I believe this is because nothing better has come along. That is where I am at this point. I want to develop something better.

The project would be based on an open source forum that we will mod to our needs.

If anyone is intrested, I am willing to fund the project as we go along.

Thanks in Advance,
da drone[/php_man]

I've got a question about how these File Centric Forums work.

Do users upload the files to the server or do they just provide a link to the file?

How were you thinking things would be done?

provide links... wether bit torrents, flashget links, ftp links, http links etc

I see this project being accomplish "easiest" by getting a good open source forum and breaking it down.

To think out of the box, when posting in a forum, you start with the heading/topic. In the FDF, you will start with the File Name. Should a user click the file, it will open the file name post and give a description of the file. Should a user want to dl the file, they will have to click a link that will show the file link/torrent/ftp. That information will be served as a pop-up. Now for the advanced part... The working/non working buttons. If the dl is good and working, then an external user clicks Link Up. If the Link is down, the external user click Link Down. If a post get's a link down more then ten times in an hour, then it drops. If a link get's 10 Link Up clicks then it progresses up in the ranks of stable files.

Additional Note, once a file is posted, there are no longer any forum type conversations about it. There can be a comments area at the bottom, but no actual conversations. CFC is for stable file sharing, not 13 year old flame wars.

It sounds real interesting and it would definitely be a fun project to work on. If you have an aim / msn screen name I'd be interested in talking about certain aspects of the project.

I can't guarantee anything because i've been very busy lately and'll be even busier for the next couple weeks.

I'm not a devoloper but deliver many project for commercial clients through outsourcing and networking. I primarily utilize MS technologies (did I just get myself banned?) But for this project and the nature of it's use, I feel that php and mySQL are the tools needed.

Thanks Nigma for asking just the right questions as to trigger me to effectivley descibe my project. If anyone out there has some time on thier hands... let me know.

Many Thanks

I edited my previous post just after you replied (ooops). But I'd be interested in talking to you via aim / msn if you have either.
