Seeking a freelancer, preferably in the greater Toronto area.

Skills needed: good command of the English language, good communication abilities, Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP. SVG. CSS and DHTML. E-commerce integration.

Project: develop a *complex* database-backed website in PHP. You'll need a thorough knowledge of not only PHP, but also cascading style sheets and DHTML. You'll need to know or quickly learn Simple Vector Graphics. If you are a novice programmer this job will be over your head, please don't inquire. This is not an "off-the-shelf", cookie-cutter job - parts of it will test your abilities.

I prefer individuals rather than companies with their commensurate overhead. While I'm not dead set against using remote coders, you'll have to be very convincing regarding the communication skills, to make up for not being able to talk face-to-face.

This is, of course, a paid job. Pay negotiable. Contact at jellicle at inch.com.

Sounds like an interesting possibility. Downside for choosing me: not in the Greater Toronto area (I'm south of your border, NorthCarolina). However, I'm very much used to working remotely and can generally convey and receive all necessary info regarding the project via email and/or webposts. When this doesn't do it, the telephone works for fine-tuned detailed conversation.
Also, sad to say javascript isn't my strongest suit. Yeah, document.write() stuff no problem and have been able to figure-out/develop more complex items (e.g. count-down timer for an online test refreshing every x seconds and submitting the form with any parts completed)... So, like I said DHTML I can do, but not always the fastest at it.
the PHP-MySQL portion... sounds great, this is what I do. I started out with a touch of PERL yrs ago & when I finally got onto the PHP bus, I really never left it.

Linux... again, no problem, use it exclusively (Debian, testing) I'm involved with a dial-up and web hosting company here... we have our own servers (not co-lo or outsourced), so very familiar with working remotely at this level as well (scp,ssh,rsync... blah blah blah) We're running apache & apache2, I've seen several slightly-different structures for each.

Anyway, back to the programming portion... despite my javascript shortcomings, I have no problems with html & css (but honestly, most have little problem here...)

SVG... familiarity? What needs to happen here? I know SVG,TIFF,GIF,JPG, and so on. Strong Adobe Photoshop and PageMaker (yeah, who uses that anymore?) background in pre-programming days... now use GIMP and Scribus (the OpenSource variations... just as good, but the keyboard shortcut differences can get on your nerves, even yrs later)

Enough rambling, thanks for your time, hope to hear from you

...or, good luck.
