It'll take a little more than a dollar a day to tear us "professional programmers" away from our $45+/hr freelancing...

Surprising that people use open source software and are asking for big. This project will be released under GPL. We are not making much profit out of it. When the project gets completed we will be in a position to pay even more.

Why bother if you're not going to make lots of money?

And if you're not going to make lots of money, how are you going to pay people $1 a day? What happens if 1000 people join in?

You say "help build the worlds largest directory". That means it has to be bigger than DMOZ's 4 million sites. If I can review, say, 100 sites a day, then you'll need to spend $40,000 paying reviewers. As its only $1 I doubt I'd bother reviewing more than 10 sites a day in reality. So it'd cost you $400,000. Do you have than sort of capital in place?

We are definetely bigger than dmoz. We have 3.5 Billion Categories in place. Our target for launch is 10,000,000 thats way beyond dmoz. About the payment part dont worry we have that sorted out. Sign-up and see for your self.

What about the time we are spending here helping people? Isn't that enough? Some of us spend here few hours on each day to help people sort their problems - we do it for free.
What about the book we are writing for free? (http://phpbook.quantum-star.com)
The open source shopping cart we are working on - for free.

I imagine it'll take editors a little while to choose the right one to put a site into then.
