This is a full-time permanent position in Washington DC
Gannett News Service, the Washington bureau for Gannett's 92 daily newspapers and Web sites, seeks a Web database and multimedia developer to produce Web content built around searchable database products. Knowledge of XHTML, CSS and Web standards required. Works with the database team editor and database manager to package and present databases and related stories and multimedia on Gannett Web sites. Qualifications include moderate to advanced working knowledge of MySQL and PHP, especially for use in presenting databases on the Web. Knowledge of Photoshop to produce Web graphics, crop, resize and tone photos, etc. Knowledge of Photoshop to produce Web graphics, crop, resize and tone photos, etc. Ability to work collaboratively with reporters and editors. Familiarity with database software used by reporters and editors, such as Microsoft Access preferred. Familiarity with a content management system for Web publishing. Familiarity with Flash, SoundSlides, Audacity and other Web presentation tools preferred. Background in news, communications, English and/or social sciences, with the ability to organize multiple content streams and types of multimedia into easy-to-use sites or modules.
