Where do you find commercial developers?

Post by Burner »

The company I work for has charged me with finding some PHP developers for a project we're working on. Are there commercial developement companies out there with more than 1 developer working for them? Or is a better direction to hire someone full time?

Thanks

There are commercial companies in the field which have multiple programmers. I cannot tell you who they are, since I do not work for one. *grin* Hunt around your area for software contracting companies.

for hiring your own developers:
If this is a one time project, you can solicit bids for free-lance/contract workers. Posting job descriptions here is a good start, and http://www.freelancedeveloper.org/ is also a good resource.
Note: If you require in-house developers, the number of responses you will get will be drastically lower.

It is a one time project, so we are actually hoping to contract for the duration of the project. The trouble we are having is twofold.

First problem is that we are in an area of the country where there isn't a plethora of programmers and last time we put the local call out in the newspaper we were overwhelmed with vastly underqualified web developer newbies looking to break into the industry.

Second Problem is that the project is rather large and we hoping for the luxury of being able to throw a second or third programmer into the mix.

Without going into detail in the forum here, we really need a group that is familiar with PHP, MySQL, and XML with the ability to port this thing to Oracle after it goes live..
