We are big on design but bad at coding. We were wondering if there was anyone out there who would like to trade service, ie, we do some design work for you and you do some coding in return. No cash exchange, just better websites all round, cheers, Jay.

Some of you coders are so damn blinkered. Flash is capable of working along side many server side scripts, it has great xml capablities and also has its own scripting language actionscript (it may be very simple to you) which can perform some amazing tasks. Using flash is also slowly bring me around to the idea of how scripting works, leading me on to realise that the backend is as important, is not more so, as the frontend. A good website = good design and good development, which can be acheived using html or flash. Companies are now starting to choose Flash again because of the added bonus of video/sound without another plugin making broadband content 10x more effective. Get with the times.
Nothing against Flash - I think it's the easiest and best way to add animated visuals to a website and PHP actually has a couple of nice Flash-functions.
But to me Flash is eye-candy - and I still have to see a website where downloading the Flash plug-in justified 10 seconds of floating and morphing graphics and did anything for the usability of that website.
P.S.: Nothing against black/white TV

It's all a question of accessibility, Flash isn’t accessesible.
I do actually like Flash and find it does have a place on the internet, but I think that using flash on corporate sites as a means for conveying information is wrong, especially if the information is targeted at its customers or users.
People with disabilities have a rough time using the internet as it is, fixed font sizes limit the view-ability of the information, computers required to have a sound card to be able to appreciate the full effects of the Flash presentation, the list goes on.
I do create Flash applications myself but tend to only use them as simple containers for images, having a single (swf) file as a gallery for example.
In the best situation a site should provide both options.
But I'm totally OT, my 2p
Regards,

cactus, surely having a website in flash that can be audio rich and include an audio navigation system is a great thing for blind people, and you can zoom in on any section of a flash movie to view text and as it is vector based the text will always be readable. BTW i don´t work for macromedia, just trying to find a developer who likes and understands the importance of flash.
