Agreed, but I havn't seen any that do, most flash applications I have seen are a canvas for designers with any textual information limited to small boxes with poor scrolling, they are also a means for promotion, in that, they are usually on a coporate site to "link in" with an ad campaign (the latter being an acceptable use of flash).

If the flash application was able to handle audio input, then your idea of an accessible flash application would hold true for those with limited or no sight, but you would have to have pretty decent ASR in your app to handle the input.

Hey, I'm not against flash, don't shoot me, I'm just putting the point accross that developers/designers need to know their users and provide them with the best options (flash and markup) for reading content.

yeah, customers are the all important factor and it is our clients who decide how they want to get there message across and usually they want flash, we by no means force the issue as i love flash and my boss loves html. The problem comes when trying to get a backend developer for flash, where are the flash/php/mysql people i hear about??

I'm one of them, I use PHP/Flash/Database.

I created a flash/php system for the (last) UK General Election for a site that took voting data from a mySQL database, and passed it to flash as simple XML documents, the alternative was to use the GD libs to create jpeg/png's of the data and serve that.

Flash helped us loads in that instance, but we also had to provide the raw data, tabluated in mark-up for those that didn't want the flash experience.

Thing is, I use http://www.reinvigorate.net/ on some sites for stats tracking, Sean, the creator of the service uses flash as a chat application (for registered users), and it rocks! The alternative would be Java.

To be honest, I probably would like to to have a "flash" contact somewhere in the world, but how much would I be contributing ? Some would say that Flash/Design is easier than coding, but I guess that's just going to provoke a flame (just kidding!!!) ;)

No flames provoked! :D damn i´d love to code but its just not in me at the moment. As far as i can tell though, getting the data into flash is the easiest bit, its the php/mysql that is doing all the work. For the project that i began this thread for, i think we are now gonna use html, which is a shame cos it is music related and would have been a nice (and usefull) flash app. But if you are interested in messing around with the idea in flash then email me jay@orangeocean.net and i will drop you the spec, there is a small amount of cash for the developer if he/she does not want to do an exchange.
