I'm looking to buy a book to teach me how to use PHP and MySQL. What I'm really going for is a database that a user can enter information into, and other users can search through that information using many filters. What books are recommended?
PS: Yes I'm looking for books, not tutorials.

Well, if you download the appropriate language version at
http://www.php.net/download-docs.php and then print it out and bind it together, wouldn't that be a book?
Or, perhaps a visit to Amazon.com might be in order if you really want to spend money before even seeing what the PHP manual has to offer...
Or, you could visit
http://www.sitepoint.com/books/phpmysql1/ where several chapters of a well reviewed book are available for download to preview first and then you can fork over $34.95 for a hard-copy version...
I believe that the selection of self-education material is very subjective and personal process -- what may work for me based upon my technical experience and aptitude may be dry, uninspiring and lacking for you... the "one man's ceiling" syndrome... visit a library, visit a book store, touch them, feel them, read a few pages here and there, see if the author's vocabulary and presentation methods work for you... and always plan on buying at least 4 different books covering various and sometimes redundant aspects of the same topic.
