running two instances of MySQL or upgrade via hack

Hi Folks

I finally found out why my host doesn't upgrade from 3.23.58: Plesk CP breaks with 4.x.

I'd like to stay with my current host, so they gave me two options:

1) upgrade Plesk via a trusted 3rd party hack
2) run another instance of 4.x

Both require compilation and Linux mumbo-jumbo

I've never compiled anything before. Does anyone know of any good, concise tutorials on how to get started?

Thanks

shouldn't your host be the ones compiling it?

Yeah... sheesh. You're right, they ought to.

They say "they're not in the development business" -- I even asked if they would take some sort of consulting fee, but no go.

I'm sticking with them because I get the entire Zend suite included and their uptime has been very good.
