Database connect gives CGI Error

Post by hellfish »

I'm going crazy with a problem connecting to the database.
If anyone can throw a few sugestions my way, they would be greatly appretiated.

Problem:
I'm building a website using an Ms access file as database and it all works fine on my testing server.

Testing Server:
Windows XP
IIS v5.1

But on my work server I get the following error with every page that connects to the db.
CGI Error
The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers.
Work Server:
Windows 2003
IIS v6 (almost shure)

My next step was to speak with the company that provided the server and they insist that this is a coding error that whe should pay 150$ an hour for them to debug...

Then I tried to show them that this wasn't the problem and I created a file for them to see that had only these two lines below. I find it very hard to believe that these two lines of code are wrong and thus throwing the CGI error.

Code: Select all

<?php
	error_reporting(E_ALL);

	$conn = new COM("ADODB.Connection") or die("Cannot start ADO");
?>
Has anyone had this problem before? this is driving me insane...database.

<?php
	error_reporting(E_ALL);

	$conn = new COM("ADODB.Connection") or die("Cannot start ADO");
?>
Has anyone had this problem before? this is driving me insane...th a problem connecting to the database.

CGI Error

The following should work just fine.. I've explicitely added the header... So cgi doesn't have a reason to complain...

Code: Select all

<?php
ini_set('error_reporting', E_ALL);
ini_set('display_errors', TRUE);

header('Content-type: text/html');

$com = new COM("ADODB.Connection");
$dsn = "DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ=". realpath("../database.mdb") ." ;DefaultDir=". realpath("../");

$com->open($dsn);
$rs = $com->execute("SELECT foo FROM bar");

while (!$rs->EOF)
{
  print $rs->Fields(0);
  print "<br>";
  $rs->MoveNext();
}

Using your code like this

Code: Select all

<?php
ini_set('error_reporting', E_ALL);
ini_set('display_errors', TRUE);

header('Content-type: text/html');

$com = new COM("ADODB.Connection");
$dsn = "DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ=". realpath("db/db.mdb") ." ;DefaultDir=". realpath("../");

$com->open($dsn);
$rs = $com->execute("SELECT foo FROM bar");

while (!$rs->EOF)
{
  print $rs->Fields(0);
  print "<br>";
  $rs->MoveNext();
}

$rs->Close();
$com->Close();
?>

I think you're unable/not allowed to instantiate a COM object on the server...

Humm... and how would I be able to change that?

It's the first time i've used a COM object on development, I've always used mysql

Or in possibility is there another way to connect?

Could this be because of my php version 4.3.10 ?

I've checked around and this doesn't seem to be an issue.
