I'd get a lawyer if you are concerned

All lyrics are copyrighted exept those who have been put into Public Domain or if the song is very old.

Basically you always get into trouble as many other lyrics sites have. Some labels always make trouble but honestly I don't understand it. It is a service for fans that they don't offer but the MI is not caring about the fan and customer anylonger except if they can put them into the criminal corner.

As a general statement, its illegal. However, as this google answers page shows, its very murky. Some major lyrics sites have been blasted in court, so I'd say its not worth taking on.

It does seem there might be wiggle room in the law, but as they say on that page, I'd assume its illegal, and ask a lawyer before trying it.

When you search Google for "Lyrics", it is interesting to note that the first result - lyrics.com - has no copyright notice... but it seems to get around the copyright restrictions by linking to official artist sites with the lyrics on them. Which sucks.

The second website, azlyrics.com, has this notice on the bottom of their page:
All lyrics are property and copyright of their owners. All lyrics provided for educational purposes only.
Copyright © 2000-2005 AZLyrics.com
Randomly clicking through to different albums, though, I ran across this copyright notice:
United States Copyright Law provides the copyright owner and/or their representative with the exclusive right to create, reproduce and distribute derivative works based on copyrighted material. Unless you have received permission from the copyright owner or their representative to distribute the lyrics from their songs, you are in violation of the law.

May 2003 - Azlyrics.com Team was contacted by one of the world's largest music print publisher "Hal Leonard Corporation", who exclusively control print rights for more than 6000 of the compositions listed on our website. Publisher demand us to cease and desist from offering these unauthorized lyrics for distribution via our website.

We had no choice but to remove all these lyrics from our site, otherwise AZLyrics.com would be closed.
That notice only appears for some albums, though. Other albums, they post the lyrics.

I think I'm going to go with the same notice which A-Z Lyrics has, but add "If you find lyrics to songs which you own the rights to on this website, and would like them removed, please email me. I will be glad to remove them without argument.".

I've just started seeing php but I learn pretty fast. I've seen C++ also but I prefer web based programming languages. I'm excellent with html, css, coldfusion... asp it's been a while.

Charles256, Take a look at my portfolio.
