GoDaddy has issues for a "host" of reasons. But I have a few shared hosting accounts and one dedicated server with them and have never had a problem with the performance of the servers or any of their tools. Even their customer service has been very good to me, although it was on the phone. Email support usually takes about an hour for a response.

All in all, they are a great domain registrar. They are certainly not a top-caliber hosting company. Yet.

But back to the subject. The OP shouldn't have to install PMA if his shared account has it.

Thanks, Again, Guys!

Yes, I want to get up and running with a database quickly; but I also want to learn how to handle PHP and MySQL. I was hoping that I could do the former with phpMyAdmin on my hosted server and the latter, over time, on a server running locally. (I downloaded and installed Apache -- at least I think it's installed).

Everah, can you tell me how to find phpMyAdmin on GoDaddy? I could find MySQL and set up a coupla databases (you're right, scottayy, they do take awhile to set them up but my need is not "urgent" urgent IYKWIM). I even called the GoDaddy phone support, and the guy I got didn't know anything about it. I thought that they would have it available to subscribers if for no other reason than to prevent having thousands of copies installed on hosted servers and chewing up space and bandwidth.

You guys are great! I worked in IT for almost 40 years before retiring, and you are among the best I've seen.

Thanks again for the help.

  1. Go to GoDaddy.com and login.
  2. From the Hosting & Servers menu select "My Hosting Account".
  3. Underneath where it says control panel, click "Open".
  4. From within the control panel, on the left menu, click on "DATABASES".
  5. Click "MySQL".
  6. Click "Open Manager".
  7. Login to phpMyAdmin using your DB username and password. Voila, you are in.
Hope that helps.
