After reading this article, I thought it was something I should post on the forums about. I know a lot of you are looking for jobs, and many more already have jobs. Interestingly enough, Joel Spolsky had an article entitled Getting Your Résumé Read. For obvious reasons, I felt this is something you should all read.
It's important, beacuse the résumé, as much as we don't want to admit it, is vital. It's the first step in the job interview process. It will seperate the good apples from the bad apples. Chances are, if you don't spend at least several hours on your résumé, and several more hours on your cover letter, your not doing everything you can.
The advice offered in this article is short and simple. However, because Joel is pulling for real world examples, it just goes to show you how many people just don't care enough to get that job.
However, this is good new for you because after reading this, you will have a better idea of what to do when you write your résumé and cover letter.

Wow. I just finished reading that article myself. Then I come hear and see that you've written about it already.

Like it or not, some hiring managers think literacy is important in cover letters and resumes, even those of programmers. They use it to *separate* the good apples from the bad. If *you're* not checking *your* spelling and grammar you may not get the job in a tight market. It's ironic how many developers who pride themselves on writing elegantly in one language, like PHP, couldn't care less about how sloppy they are with their English.
