User registration and profile edit page policy change

Post by feyd »

New users will notice something different on the registration and profile pages. You now require a certain number of posts to be able to set your website and signature. This was done to combat a couple jerks who were registering users with bots that'd have porn or other purely advertising pages on them to get picked up by search engines or the like.

Websites and signatures of users with post counts below this mark will not be shown in their posts until they reach it.

Please note, if you try to circumvent this change, the pages will automatically ban you. No warning or chance for appeal.

In other news, I've taken a little time to put the join date information back into our post sidebars and profile pages.

Yeah, that's a good idea actually. Out of curiosity, what is the post minimum?

not deleted, just hidden until they get enough posts, like with any new user.

Pathetic that you had to resort to this route, but not surprising.

It was the better route than adding a human input validation thingy.. since I would have had to add a lot of other extra junk too, for it to be legal.

Surely if they're a new user they wouldn't have seen what it was like before :P  and if they weren't a new user then they would not need to register in the first place...

"new users" covers all users under the post count requirement, so yes, they needed to know.
