I've been learning PHP for the last 10 months and have been posting in this forum since then. My background is graphic arts not coding. I've found this forum to be extremely helpful in learning how to code. This is because in general people ask to see code before posting how to do something - no freebies. (Although an occassional freebie doesn't hurt. ) I like that aspect of this forum. It really makes this site unique. Plus when the mods hand-out an answer they've been great about answering questions about how the code works. This site has been a great tool for me to learn PHP. Since I started learning PHP I've coded three websites with database driven content. This forum has gotten me over a lot of the bumps along the way. :D I've also enjoyed trying to help others with their coding questions.

Thanks to all!

Been programming in PHP since the beginning of last summer I think.
Only for personal sites and stuff currently, but I know PHP pretty well now, so I could probably do something bigger.
Biggest project yet would be my own CMS for vigge.net, which is currently under work.

Been coding in php for the last 3 years, first in as a part owner in a small start up that didn't go anywhere to quickly, they are still in business though, and am now getting paid to code in php on salary, yeah!!!!! I have also done some freelance work for small to medium size projects. Most of the projects I have worked on fall into this catagory with only one largish project.

Although I have no design skills to speak up and can't draw a stick man to save my life my last couple of projects have been doing photo and image manipulation using php including the last one which creates pdf's on the fly.

Oh joy.

I think this is a great forum and have been around for quite awhile and it has been quite interesting to see how some of the other old timers around here have devoloped into sophisticated programmers.

If there is anything that I can do to help this forum please let me know and I will do my best to help out.

Isn't it amusing that the more you learn about coding any language the more you realise how much you don't know....

As such this is an excellent resource for people and I would like to thank everyone involved for there continuing dedication to it.

Having started a web company about 5 years ago creating sites using CFML I began to see the benefits of using PHP. I have now changed the company over to PHP entirely (although we still support our CF sites) and as owner, I've been keen to learn PHP myself.

It's a great language to use and this forum is still helping me to do new stuff. Recently I've created a Content Mangaged web site which, instead of pulling articles out of the DB all the time, pulls out the info, pulls together sets of templates and writes the pages to the server so that the server load is a lot lower and the pages are better indexiblel by search engines.

This forum is the best one I've come across and is consistently inhabited by far better programmers than I. I only wish I could *answer* more questions than I *ask*. Keep up the good work. Why don't you get a Google Adsense campaign going. You've a homepage ranking of 6 which is pretty good.

I've split Calimero's suggestions from this thread as they were a very valuable, but different topic. The new thread can be found at viewtopic.php?p=143020 - if you have further suggestions, please use that thread. If you want to post why you use PHP and what your experience level is, please post here.

I make a living doing this. I'm primarily a developer at this time, but I also do and have done a lot of systems stuff. Lots of db administrationg, routing, clustering, and wireless WAN crap. PHP is great for helping deal with systems issues. I've run a lot of mission critical cron jobs with PHP and had varying degrees of success with PHP daemons of varous types.
