We're back

Post by patrikG »

Who says PHPDN doesn't cater for entertainment, ha, high drama it was!

The entire moderator team was disposed by an evil SiteAdmin, General McGrieveous (Private as of today) who threatened and tried to intimidate mods and members of the forum with legal action and wanted to turn this board into a horrible machine the size of a planet to threaten the Galaxy with.

Probably one of the most bizarre things I have ever seen on the internet (and I've been around for a while): a really intelligent, helpful and funny SiteAdmin puts a lot of work into this forum and goes out of his way to further his ideas of what programming is all about like everyone else. Suddenly, something breaks and he starts a coup d'etat ( story see: http://forums.devnetwork2.net/viewtopic.php?t=68 - and read the blogs ). This process spanned about three years. Sad, really.

After a very involved weekend, PHPDN is back. Thanks to everyone who emailed/pmed in support, spammed Jason's inbox ;) and helped restore things back to normal. Most of all, thanks to feyd who did the actual work. Thanks to those who made blog-entries, to those who voiced their opposition on this board while it was "under occupation".
Thanks for all the support.

It's good to be back :)

I do not understand anything that went on "last weekend". I did not recognize anything of it and do not know which threads/topics you argue with.

Anyway, I think both sides are wrong! The site banning great supporters of this forum is wrong, also quitting of supporters to the so called "D2" are wrong starting their own forum.

This way both forums will loose, and most beyond the loosers will be the visitors/members of both forums.

What I will do: If you continue this way, I will quit both forums.

The entire point of devnetwork2 was because McGruff took control and took away all privledges above basic member for everyone. He then went on and banned all of them as well.

No one wanted to sit around and wait, seeing what was next on Dictator McGruff's agenda, so instead they created a new forum to get some actual conversation going.

No one quit, they were banned.

You're very confused...

Read the story from the link in my signature ("My Blog" -> Rogue General) and it'll clear up some confusion.

Sorry these events upset you so much. We were all rather up set. I know I was upset to find out Feyd was banned. Feyd who seems to tirelessly answer posts and help everyone who ventures on to this board. I was really upset to find out he wasn't the only one banned.

They didn't quit. They were ready to start over again from scratch to keep helping people just like you djot. There are no quitters here.

This was also something that was a big consern. What happened affected people that was not inolved with "the thing" in any matter, ie. normal users trying to get help and have fun.

Creating a new forum was a great way (imho) to see how many people that actually shared the same interest. Fastest growing forum I've seen afaik. Creating such might been bad in the eyes of people that didn't really know what was happening, but for the greater good it was very interesting.

The new forum made a point. Its hard to ignore when most of the active participants all move to a new forum in the space of a day or two (depending on when they came back online over the weekend).

Much better than everyone sitting in Limbo...;)

Could I ask for some clarification, since D2 is still up and running: are D1 and D2 now to be run concurrently, or is D2 simply up to allow people to get at the full story? Should we stop posting on D2? I apologise if this is made clear elsewhere - there seems to be so many threads about this that I barely know where to start looking!

Anyway, I'm glad that the "inciddent" has been resolved.

It is confusing yes. At the moment D2 is just sitting there while we decide on what we will ultimately do with it.

It may just get used as a mirror for D1 in case of failure or maintenance. It seems that a few members are also confused over this point so we'll get back to you guys asap ;)

I mentioned in my blog what my plans for D2's future are. I'll paraphrase:

An expansion on certain topics will be done, sub-forums will be added due to much higher volume of individual boards. Expanded topics will include (Feature) Rich Internet Applications, Delphi, C/C++, Ajax, among others.. I haven't had time lately to really do much with the outside world as we're working on about 5 projects simultaneously here (at my company) along with trying to write articles and build a "public" tech-demo and so forth.
