Remember how upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows XP had a big impact on resource usage? You really needed more memory and a better CPU. For many people it was a big jump. It's basically the same thing when it comes to upgrading from Windows XP to Vista. It uses even more memory and needs even more CPU.
Think of your computer like a fast, high performance engine. Instead of using it to drive a normal racing body you load it down with a 20 tons of weight. You aren't going to be racing anywhere. XP was bad enough but Vista will be even worse.
I sooo hope to be on OS X before vista comes out. Hehe, with the speed and delays of vista that shouldn't be a problem
Then I'll keep my winxp box running for testing now and then.
xp for me is like some annoying collegue who keeps nagging me with stupid problems, or a small sharp stone in my shoe while walking, or some fly buzzing around my head, or or .... etc
I haven't seen any reason to persuade me a migration to Vista is required, let alone warranted. What does it add over XP? I suspect only something impacting the running of later PC games will be enough to get me to move - and then I'll probably need to upgrade, as noted by PJ.
I voted for: Hell no! I'm sticking with what I have
As AKA Panama Jack said, it will use more memory and CPU than what Win XP uses and right now my PC struggle to run Win XP, so I'm not going to move to Vista, at least not until I buy a new PC.
Currently using XP SP1 on one PC and SP2 on another, I wont be switching to Vista for a while yet since these two are nice and stable (for a Microsoft product it is quite amazing ).
I plan on getting another three PC's in the next couple months/years, Windows Vista, Mac OSX, and some form of *NIX distro, most likely Fedora or Debain. Gonna keep these PC's on XP for testing purposes. Will use the NIX and Vista as my main PC's as there are some things you can do with *NIX you can't do with Windows and vice versa.
Went for 'I might try it on an alternative computer' as it was the closest thing.
I might try it. I currently have a dual boot with WinXP SP2 / Ubuntu Linux. I put the linux on the larger partition, because it is more stable to use for my development purposes. I still need the windows because of the need to use Flash, and some graphics programs. I do use Gimp, but it doesn't always meet all my design needs. I wish software companies would cater more to linux users, so that I could completely let go of windows. Vista it seems is more entertainment-geared/non-techie user-friendly. Something I am not interested in at all.
I went for gotta try out the latest. Cuz i like to develop as the *majority* of people would see the application. And I imagine most will be going Vista.
Set Search Time - A google chrome extension. When you search only results from the past year (or set time period) are displayed. Helps tremendously when using new technologies to avoid outdated results.
Upgrade to Vista? Nah. I hate WinXP enough as it is. I was quite please with Win2K, which I still use at work. But stupid Best Buy does not offer Win2K on their machines anymore, so I had to get WinXP. Plus, to get the development environment I needed, I had to upgrade to XP SP2. I am really not fond of what Micro$oft has done with their Windows OS, so I will not be upgrading out of choice.
I may end up going 100% Linux. I have three old PC's at home that would make excellent candidates for resurrected, FC5 Linux boxes for the kiddies. Heck, if my kids grow up with Linux and learn Windows as a second Language, they may be in a valuable position later on in life.
But for me, I am staying with XP SP2 (because I have to) and a Linux FC distro as a backup/learning environment.

I'll make the migration asap. MS did a good thing with the release of XP. It was the first OS release where I felt like they did it 'right' straight out of the box.
I'd imagine the same will hold true with Vista. I could be mistaken and pay a heavy price if I am, however, I think they've learned a lot from their mistakes as evidenced by the solidness of XP (relative to their prior products ). I'm confident it will be tried and tested and the right decision...
I have to say that I use Linux 90% of my time on a computer. Windows will always take a back seat to Linux in my book, but yet I'm not Joe Ebayer, and you won't find me buying a $500 hammer.
