A poll about Apple
Just wondering people's views on Macs, especially now you can run windows on them.
I have recently got a 20" iMac and ditched all my PC equipment totally and love it to bits. I can switch OSes faster than you can blink like you can see in this video

I haven't used a Mac since high school (1991), but even then they were cool. I wouldn't mind getting one (actually, I have looked into it). I heard that you can use a Mac similar to the way you can use a Linux machine, so that makes me more inclined to get one. That whole issue about running Windows on a Mac... well, if I wanted to run Windows, I would get a PC. And seeing as my house is dominated by Microsoft, the only logical next step is to get a Mac.
Yes, they have.neophyte wrote:Considering it now that it run WinXP... But does anyone know if someone has installed Vista with Boot Camp

Actually, you can't. Bootcamp also provides the drivers needed in Windows for the Apple specific hardware (which is NOT available elsewhere). Grub may get you a bootloader, but it doesnt get the working solution. Bootcamp does.d11wtq wrote:FYI: You can get GRUB to do the same jobneophyte wrote:Considering it now that it run WinXP... If I want FreeBSD, I will use FreeBSD. If I want to play games, I'm forced to use Windows. What's the point of buying overpriced Apple-branded hardware? Besides, Apple is one huge hype machine, and I simply don't like companies like that.

Here's why I like them. They offer the friendliness of windows with a robust Darwin underbelly... that's pretty unique. I can hack around the system like I do with Linux and I can do thing such as installing apps with minimal fuss (I believe Macs offer the easiet (drag/drop) way to install and remove programs over any other OS.Gambler wrote:Macs do not provide any "unique" fnctionality,
I love the dashboard too. I wish you could get something as nice as that for a linux DE. I also like the fact that I can quickly view all of my open windows at the touch of a button. As much as I love the Gimp in linux I do miss the power of Photoshop too.
Do they have a port system? That's the most user-friendly thing I've ever seen. I can install up-to-date applications for free, without having to keep CDs. And I can update the whole system in 3 commands. They offer the friendliness of windows with a robust Darwin underbelly...

From http://darwinports.opendarwin.org/:
"There are currently about 0 completed and usable ports, with more being added on a regular basis."
Is this a joke?
