How do you manage to stay up late, whether it is to get a project finished or for some other reason.

Insomnia.

Tea, coffe and showers help me to stay up early all day. Well, not really. They're just for fun. The only thing that helps is excercise.

Sadly, I have a natural need for only a few hours of sleep; maybe six. I can survive on four for months at a time, but soon enough I'll crash. Granted, the crash only lasts maybe eight hours. No added caffeine or other drugs or alcohols needed, although some (caffeine) is consumed.

I have a stay-at-home wife and five homeschooled children. I live in one of the more expensive areas of Northern California (which areas aren't expensive, right?) and I don't want to have to be reliant on a job to support my family forever. That is motivation enough. I am up at about 5:00 AM every weekday to go to work. I get home about 5:00 PM. I have dinner, spend time with the family, then hit the keys at about 9:30 PM. I usually hang it up at about 12:30 to 1:00 AM.

Cola makes me going... all night long.. and with a bit of training it's 8am before you realise it... Which ends up in a less productive working day that starts at 9am...

My body doesn't manage sleep effectively. Some days I'm an insomniac, others I could sleep all day.

Caffeine doesn't help me much immediately, so I usually just focus on lots of liquids, loud music, and a really fun project to code.

That combination rarely fails to keep me up. :)
