Can we skip the issue for the moment? IMO teach both early, but we should move this to another topic at some point once the contents listing gets more discussion. It's too easy to get bogged down on one detail and let the rest founder... There is a general concensus already on this, it just needs some extra hammering, and a vote - we have mechanisms for neither at the moment.
Should we try get some external forums up? Or is it remotely possible to have it hosted here in a separate section somehow. Maybe a mod can verify if it's possible or not.

Should we need, the possibility of throwing up external forums on a free PHP host, such as AwardSpace.net, is a possibility, granted we don't use up too much bandwidth.Maugrim_The_Reaper wrote:Can we skip the issue for the moment? But yes, I believe an dedicated set forums, whether hosted here or not, is vital to the continuation of this project.
Should the need arise, I can place up forums as I've got plenty of bandwidth to handle a good amount of traffic (in the nature of 30gb per month I believe).
And Everah, I think that list is fairly concise for what we've got organized so far, albeit not much
. The debate on OOP vs Procedural is petty, as OOP involves procedural and everyone knows that, so it's a moot point at best, and definitely doesn't belong in this thread. This thread is about the general interest and organization of the project.

I'm currently trying to get a forum up and running under our Urban Renewal category. It just needs an admin to approve and implement it then we can get going. I figured we might as well keep the discussion at devnet where it started.Maugrim_The_Reaper wrote:Should we try get some external forums up? If he's talking about the PHPDN Revival forum, then it is members only. But memberships is pretty easy to get. Speaking of which, that may be the way to go for this. Create a members only forum for the book project, then accept membership into the group so we can offer access only to those that need it.
Or does that sound too dictatorshipish?

Arey Waah!! Within a day so much has happenned that when I return to see, i had to read through pages n pages...
Maugrim and Everah, think you have settled down with the topics. I saw one past where certain roles where displayed. Think you both can take up the tole of administrators and decide upon the rest fo the team.
I haven't visited the blog given by Maurgim yet, have you pu the final list of topics in that ? I request you to publish one and only one, final list of topics for immediate consideration. We can later modify the topics based upon the material recieved.
As the actual leader is out of site for a few days, we have to group and do some good job to satisfy him when he returns..
Hope the same heat and enthusiasm exists and survives all the issues and opinions that might pop up in future, and the book be completed in a wise way. Lets begin the work, with a hurray and cheers to our efforts!

I prefer to think that I comment. Syndicating would just be leaching a feed. I actually have to read all this stuff before I write.Maugrim_The_Reaper wrote:You blog, they read, and Zend syndicates...

It seems that other than the OOP vs. Proc. debate, you guys have things well in hand. I trust you'll let me know if there's anything I can do to assist. This looks like an exciting project and DevZone would be happy to play whatever small part you'll allow us to.
I'll bookmark this thread and try to keep an eye on it but if something important happens, don't hesitate to drop me an email at cal at zend dot com. Better yet, since yer a bunch of writers now, somebody write me up an occasional progress report and I'll publish it.

I couldn't resist. I had to blog about it, too.

We can do however phpBB allows us. Yeah, stuff under Urban Renewal (note, Urban Renewal is different to our PHPDN Revival forum) is closed to the public at present. We're (mods) using it to discuss potential projects that have copped up here and there.Maugrim_The_Reaper wrote:Would the Urban Renewal section (just the actual forum for this) be accessible publicly or by permission grant?
There's no reason we can't have a forum in that category which is open to the public, but I'm wondering if it may be best to have members subscribe to a certain Usergroup (See top of forum) in order to use it. We certainly need it given the number of pages in this thread alone and it's only been going two days.
